I don’t usually blog twice a day. But today, I make an exception. I got my newspapers this morning and I read this : Filtering Out Online Smut (by the Star Online). I will be reproducing the same article below as an insert, in case something happens to the link. Not many local bloggers are covering this yet, and I think I am the first.
I have nothing against filtering smut. I am, however, more concered about the freedom of speech. The most worrisome statement is actually this:
The MCSC has the capability to track down those producing or downloading pornography (Dr. Jamaluddin Jarjis)
It is not so much the fact that the MCSC has the capability of tracking those producing or downloading pornography, but rather, the fact that concerns me is that MCSC has the capability of tracking. Why should we, the free citizens be tracked down like dogs by the Government?
With the ability to track down people, what makes the people so sure that the Government isn’t just tracking the downloading of porn? What if the Government is tracking people whom it thinks and labels as dissidents? (Ktemoc, Jeff Ooi, Lim Kit Siang, Raja Petra Kamaruddin comes to mind). Sure, some people like Jeff Ooi and Lim Kit Siang are public figures, and they are not so easy to take down. But what of people like Ktemoc? I have certainly enjoyed KTemoc’s analysis of situations (I think he’s better than Jeff), and most certainly, he hasn’t been very kind on the Government these days.

So.. Someone wanted to see my desk. Another One thinks I am having a severe case of OCD (that’s Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder). Here’s to both of them (I’ve even numbered them, like what Mossie did):

Trust is, to many, a fickle issue. Some people say: I trust so-and-so because of so-and-so reasons. Some other people say: Trust needs to be gained/earned. Blah, blah, blah.
Does trust require reason? Does trust require earning?
Yes. In the conventional sense, that is. But how many times have you trusted someone, and that someone repeatedly violates your trust? And yet, how many times have you not trusted someone, and only to discover, many years later, with much chagrin and regret that indeed that someone was actually honest and sincere to you?
Therein lies the greatest flaw of all. Humans think that they know who they can trust, but statistics and many studies have proven otherwise. You don’t know if you can trust a person. If you think you know, you’re wrong. The person whom you trust may, afterall, turn out to be a axe murderer.
People keep mentioning that Trust is subjective, and cannot be measured. But yet it can. A person who has been repeatedly betrayed will be less likely to trust a new person. Or in some extreme cases, a person who has been repeatedly betrayed will be more likely to trust a new person. Statistics are readily available. Trust – it all depends and boils down to the basics of economics: Incentives. Continue reading Trust

Yesterday’s meeting with Jarod was definitely a success (though not in my car’s gas tank. It was on E, when Jarod led me all the way back to where I was familiar with lol), and further meetings would most certainly be productive (though I think I may have freaked him out a little with all my . . . → Read More: Freakonomics

So, I watched Death Note night before last (after constant egging by Abel and recommendation by Yung Hui). And my brief review says this: Watch it. Asides from the crappy translations in the subtitles (if you’re Malaysian, but not all my readers are Malaysian, lol), Death Note is a decent movie to watch. If you like battle-of-the-wits kind of movies, then this is one show to watch.
Right. Now, ahead to the spoilery reviews.

In view of the recent surge of blog-posts about religious extremism (read: Lucia Lai, Jeff Ooi), the newly created Other Beliefs Extra Sensitive Establishment (O.B.E.S.E) will now create a warning to all Muslims around the world.
Seeing that even a cross on an Ice-Cream is viewed as a a form of proselythizing, we at O.B.E.S.E believe that . . . → Read More: O.B.E.S.E Warning to Muslims

Thank goodness for Du Pont and Teflon. And of course Dockers. My phone, wallet and other devices didn’t get a single drop of rain. I love Docker’s Mobile Pants.
