10 Curriculum Vitae Observations

Posted in: Rants n' Rave

I’ve been reading quite a number of C.V.s these days, and I’ve noticed a few things:

  1. Out of the 50+ applications I received, roughly half are male and the other are female.
  2. 95% of the female applicants (21 out of 23) sent me a nicely typed out C.V. Some are not as proficient in Microsoft Word, but their C.V.s are neat and tidy, nonetheless.
  3. Only 53% of the male applicants (16 out of 30) sent me C.V.s. The others were halfway casual messages.
  4. Out of the 16 C.V.s received, 10 were properly typed out and up to date. The other 6 looks mashed together in the last minute.
  5. I’ve received another 4 emails from people of unknown gender, and with a really casual application (not even the name is known, but I suppose they are male - language was masculine).
  6. 3 others called, 2 text-messaged me, and no follow-ups there after.
  7. The two female applicants who didn’t send me a C.V., I know them personally.
  8. Shortest application email title reads: “Hey, I’m interested.”, and then a huge picture (i.e. really high resolution pictures) of him in underwear is attached. No email content.
  9. Number of lecherous applications received (i.e. people trying to fish for a date via their application) - 2. They were immediately trashed.
  10. Numbers of candidates shortlisted from the 59 people - 10.

Conclusion? Girls are better more meticulous and more serious than guys at applying for something.

Frankly, some people were so… wrong in posting their applications. I mean, have you ever seen an application that reads: “Hey, I’m interested, call me at xxx-xxxxxxx.” and that is the end of their application. After pursuing further (calling them up and asking them to send a C.V. or asking for credentials), you realized that its not worth getting to work with these people, why waste good phone credits?

Here’s a tip: If you actually want to get attention - do a proper C.V. or resume. Don’t try to fish for dates. I’m not a gal. And I’ve enough dates to last me three lifetimes (I just lack the money to go - so do donate, and I promise you that you won’t be eating at mamak stalls every time you call me out.)

Maybe I’ll write a C.V. Dos and Don’ts Guide one day

To those whom I’ve called. Thank you. You guys were great! Thank you for taking your time and effort.
And a note: I won’t be around planet Earth from the tomorrow (Thursday) to the coming Monday, so please don’t call me or anything. Unless, of course, you’re a telepath or something. :D

Oh. I’m without a mouse as well, so typing things and editing large blocks of text is a bitch. Anyone wants to donate one?

What? Who searches for mates using C.V.s?

Oh yeah.. Star Craft II is announced!
