Most obviously this is an article that is under the category of economic nonsense (most of which is what I post)…
If you believed a word I said in Elanor Tan (And an Announcement), you deserve to be shot (especially those who fell for my MSN personal message). The SunCorp Stadium was a dead giveaway that I wasn’t being serious. She’s in Cambridge now, for those of you who are interested (and I’m not too sure about this either).
And next, from Alex Tabarrok:
…I wonder if other groups haven’t converged on more efficient methods of signaling. Some groups, for example, use education as a signal. Other groups like to show how clever they are by writing pithy summaries of new economics research.
He was summarizing a new NBER research paper on cospicuous consumption. Read the whole blog entry (and the comments). I especially loved the comment by Secret Asian Man. And yes. I DO read the Secret Asian Man comics.
Before popular economics (you know, Freakonomics et al), there was… David Friedman. I just discovered his delightful work, Price Theory. Interestingly, he is the son of Milton Friedman, who also has a book called Price Theory. Now go read those two books.
Chewxy, over and out (to do some idiotic assignment on competition)
Cool?
