Desultory Discworld Day

Posted in: Me Stuff, Geeky Stuff

Making Money By Terry PratchettToday is supposedly my hellish day. I’ve got assignments due, a presentation, and an exam. All today. But let us not forget what day today is as well.

Today is the day Moist Von Lipwig returns - This time to the Ankh Morpork Mint (That’s what they call the Fed in UK?)!

So, I declare today as the Desultory[1] Discworld Day (because this wasn’t planned. I just made it up as I went along). To celebrate the decidedly Desultory Discworld Day, let’s have some fun…

Which non-literary-device (i.e Anthromorphic Personifications) Discworld character do you most resemble?
Ponder Stibbons. Hashie kept saying that I remind him of one of the older wizards, but I disagree. I’m most like Ponder, character-wise. Then again, I can have Ridcully-fits of stupidity or Bursar madness at times. I also seem to like Orang-Utans a lot (I don’t fancy turning into one though). I also have been known to act like Twoflower sometimes.

Name 2 acquaintances (who read TP) and what Discworld Characters do they remind you of?
Hashie - Sam Vimes (or at least he fancies himself to be like Sam Vimes).. He’s actually more like Albert. Or Igor.
Elanor - Granny Weatherwax/Susan Stohellit. She does comes across as someone quite strict… a no-nonsense kind of person.Headology anyone?

What Discworld Movie would you produce/want to watch?
Ooh.. this one is hard. If I ever got the rights to produce a Discworld movie, I’d choose the book with the most cinematic quality - Faust Eric (actually, anything with Rincewind is almost guaranteed to be cinematic). I feel The Last Hero would also be a good movie to make. But I chose Faust Eric because it’s the shortest. I’d hate to cut anything out (like Foul Ol’ Ron in Hogfather). And I’d get John Williams to do the music. Hah. If only Terry would give me the rights lol.

Favourite Discworld Book
Equally hard. It’d be somewhere between Small Gods and Thief of Time. I loved those two books immensely.

Favourite Discworld Character
Without a doubt - Death (with a capital D). If you read a previous incarnation of this blog, I had a guest blogger called Death, who typed in small caps.

Favourite Discworld Character as a Pet
Maurice. Or Quoth. Maybe not Quoth. Having a talking raven is a bit disturbing. But the Death of Rats would make a cute pet on my shoulder.

Discworld Books You’ve Never Read
Gasp! Though, seriously, I’ve read all the Discworld books (including the Science of Discworld series) except for the Tiffany Aching series. And oh, Making Money, but that’s coming in 7 days’ time (strangely cheaper to buy at Amazon than Angus and Robertsons).

Favourite Terry Pratchett Short Story
Death and What Comes Next. I wrote something really really similar waaay back in the old times. Then I found Terry’s work. His is much better.

Terry Pratchett Book that Keeps Going Missing
Good Omens. I’ve bought 4 copies so far. My last copy was last seen last October. I think it’s really a self-fulfilling prophecy, the statement in the book jacket. I’m sick of buying replacement copies.

One Other Author That Can Compare to Terry Pratchett
The late Douglas Adams.

[1] Desultory means random, or unplanned, not insult or anything like that.
