Happy Halloween

All Hallows’ Day… is tomorrow. And today, on the eve of the Hallowed souls, I v-log for the first time!

Yes, you heard it right. Mr. Ne’er-show-his-face-on-his-blog is going to video-log. And this is not a joke. In a most serious manner, here’s my video blog… it’s a short one though:

You need to a flashplayer enabled browser to view this YouTube video

Speaking of videoblogs, here’s Natalie’s YouTube. I love the way she does her video entries. It’s cheeky, and fun. Unlike mine (I assumed you’ve seen it). She has movie interests similar to mine too! Though, as she says, her videos do not reflect her. But I s’pose it DOES reflect on her creative spirit. And she’s cute. Damn. Too bad she has a boyfriend (whose iPod got stolen) though. She’s THAT impressive. Readers of this blog will know that I’m highly critical over YouTube videos and v-logs… so, it takes a lot to impress me, and she did it. Continue reading Happy Halloween

Some Thoughts… Pre-Exams

Some Thoughts… before my finals:

Acquiring the Orange Box during SWOTVAC is such a bad idea.
Acquiring the Orange Box and 3DS Max 2008 during SWOTVAC is a really really bad idea.
I haven’t had instant noodles for one month and 4 days already.
I have some really unhealthy obsession with headcrabs.
In fact, it’s so unhealthy that I got the . . . → Read More: Some Thoughts… Pre-Exams

On Being Italian…

I am Italian (and I can hear my dad shouting “HOW CAN YOU JUST ABANDON YOUR CHINESE HERITAGE!!!!!”). Unlike the time I claimed I was Irish (which was for no reason other than to hear my dad shout the above, which he again, didn’t…), I have a good reason for claiming to be Italian this time round.

You see, in the house I am living in, we consume lots of Italian food. A LOT.

How much you ask? Lucky for you, I’ve been keeping track. Since I arrived 13 weeks ago, my housemates and I have in total consumed (and thrown away – I count by how many bottles we throw away) 32 bottles of pasta sauce (and that’s the count for pasta alone. I sadly didn’t keep track of how many pizzas we make, or how much mozarella cheese we buy; or how much minestrone soup we cook.)

32 bottles of pasta in 13 weeks! That’s a whopping average of 2.46 bottles per week!

Roughly 68.75% of the pasta sauce consumed is Dolmio. The other 31.25% is an occasional Leggo’s or Prego (mine, or Cat’s)

If anything, this is the reason why Dolmio should sponsor us. Hey, guys at Dolmio! If you are interested, you may contact me here:

Now, I don’t usually buy Dolmio (I’m more of a Prego guy, but it’s so hard to find Prego here, I just buy Leggo’s), but yesterday, I bought my first Dolmio. Why? So that my weekly shopping would cost a nice round $35 (Dolmio was going for $2.05 at Coles, while Leggo was at $3.95).

Here’s my Dolmio:

O'Mio Dolmio
Besides being an awesome example of good lighting in photography, this photograph also contains very subtle product placement for Coke Zero and Dell Computers, Intel Centrino Duo and Microsoft Windows Vista as well as Emerald Insight, who have been providing me wonderful economics journal articles.

And we all know why I bought the Dolmio in the first place. It’s not for the nice $35 rounding… and it sure as hell is not because of these very subtle product placements:

My Favourite Journal Providers

Mine’s Emerald Insight. Why? They provide such clear text, as opposed to the fuzzy text from JSTOR, or other Journal archive sites (ABI/Inform, EBSCOHost, that sort of thing). ScienceDirect (Part of Reed Elsevier) occasionally does provide clear text in their PDFs, but generally, the older the article, the more it looks like it was being scanned. . . . → Read More: My Favourite Journal Providers

Old Work

Sometimes what you did in the past does come back to haunt you.

In 2000-2001, my friends and I made the school website for my old school. We actually spent more time bufooning around, playing Age of Empires II, Counter-Strike, and watching cute shows like Bunny Slippers and making stupid stuff on Flash than actually working on the website. We were like 2 years behind our schedule due to coming up with various versions of the school website (and most notably, playing Civilization III and getting caught by the teachers)

Anyways, before we were caught by the teachers playing Civilization III, we actually did complete a shabby looking site. If we did it today, we would have went through all the XHTML verification, but we were young then, and we didn’t. Obviously, the end result is one crappy site. Well, we had a lot of grand plans for it (and we succeeded in most), but in general, we thought it to be extremely distasteful by 2002. We basically disowned the website by then.

Five years down the road, today, I discovered that the site is still very much alive. It wasn’t in the WayBack Machine, but it is live though malupdated. And much to my chagrin, it still functions! Ugh. Some parts have been removed completely though (Or Seng Kiat never really finished uploading the whole thing). Continue reading Old Work

Why Emo

Hashie read my last entry and asked why am I emo. I’m not very emo in the first place. But there are several things in my head bursting to get thru.

One, obviously, is my damn assignment. I still have some 20 articles to read and digest and shit it out in 2000 words (the writing isn’t . . . → Read More: Why Emo

Never Tell

This I agree. How many times have you shown someone something, and they immediately lose interest? Part of the world is keeping up the magical illusion. Breaking . . . → Read More: Never Tell
