I have two categories of RSS feeds that I read - one is my browser (Firefox and Opera) feeds; the other is Omea feeds. I used to use Google Reader, but I’ve gotten paranoid over what Google knows about me, so I switched to Omea instead
The browser feeds are feeds that I read really often (meaning, every hour), while the Omea feeds are those that I read less often (once every few days). Most interestingly though, the feeds that update themselves real quickly (sometimes up to 100 new items a day) are in my Omea list. Perhaps I should restate that - my browser feeds are feeds I consider important and/or good reads, while my Omea feeds serve more like an entertainment list.
So what’s in my feed reader? I have way too many (over 100 feeds) subscribed in Omea, so I’ll share with you my Firefox Live Bookmarks one:

Yep, they’re all nicely abbreviated to save space. Here’s what they are:
- 26E = Aaron Schiff’s 26Econ
- BBC = BBC News
- CE = CoreEcon
- cfgt = cfgt
- CV = Cosmic Variance
- EA = Aplia Economics (Economics News for students)
- EP = Econophysics
- ET = Arrested Development, by Elanor
- ge = Good Experience Blog
- GT = Joshua Gans’ Game Theorist (he also writes at CoreEcon)
- gv = Gaping Void
- IF = IdeaFestival
- KK = Kevin Kelly
- MM = Modern Mechanix (for a good chuckle)
- MO = Midas Oracle (to keep myself updated on prediction markets)
- MR = Marginal Revolution
- SDSL = Freakonomics Blog
- sh = Peter Abilo’s Shmula
- SM = Andrew Gelman’s Statistical Modelling et cetera blog
- Spam = NotSpam
- SV = Leigh Alexander’s Sexy Videogameland
- uc = Uncov (Techcrunch with a 4chan-esque twist, that Arrington is beginning to follow)
- VE = Visualizing Economics
- w = wkKay
- x = xkcd
- z = Zybler
- Deadlines = My projects deadlines.
Notes and Personal Thoughts:
My list changes all the time. Longest surviving on my list is BBC (came with Firefox, added in Opera), cfgt, Cosmic Variance, Marginal Revolution, Freakonomics, and Andrew Gelman’s. I have cfgt’s for more than 4 years (since 2003, in his blogspot days, I reckon), Cosmic Variance and Marginal Revolution has been there for about 2 years, Freakonomics and Andrew Gelman’s for nearly 2 years.
I also remove a lot of things on the list. I used to have Brad DeLong, Overcoming Bias and various others in my FF list. They’re now in my Omea feed list. I like my Omea feed list. I get to categorize them. Heh.
I removed Freakonomics before I went to Australia, because they sold out to New York Times, and its only within the last 2 weeks that I’ve added them back, simply because I’m getting way too many 2nd hand news which originates from Freakonomics. Similarly, I also removed Megan Mcardle’s Jane Galt blog after she moved over and wrote for TheAtlantic.
I used to not have xkcd on the list. I’d periodically check on the site, but then after a while, I just needed to subscribe to the feed because I needed my brain’s memory for something else other than reminders to read xkcd.
Also, I think its good to have economics blogs that are outside the US (like both of Joshua Gans’ blogs). Because, during election season (like now), every Tom Dick and Harry talks about it, it gets OLD really quickly.
Finally, I think Joshua Gans is a lucky bastard. He’s got economics.com.au, and gametheorist.blogspot.com. How lucky must you be to actually register those sites!!?
And, yes, I’m a person who has to subscribe to my own project deadlines RSS to be reminded of them. There. Now you know my reading habits. Time to share yours, dear readers.
Cool?

Oohh.. thanks. I DO feel special, LOL.
I see lots of sports news you subscribe to. Number of sports feed on my Omea feed reader : 2 - ChessVariants feed and Yahoo!Sports (one of those ‘default’ RSS feeds I never bothered to delete)
btw, I have you on my RSS list too (my Omea read list)
i use bloglines for pipelining feedreading
opera for time-critical feeds
firefox for sites designed to fail in opera
Hmm.. I hope Chewxy is in your Opera feeds as well, LOL
I use Opera for everything. Firefox for stuff that doesn’t work in Opera. If it doesn’t work in either, then I figure I shouldn’t be visiting the site.
