Few Things Into One

Posted in: Miscelleny

I deleted yesterday’s post because obviously I was in no right mind to post it. So, instead, today I’ll post a few of my intended posts into short, condensed posts. All in one. And stop asking me to use Twitter.

On The Logic of Life
I mentioned I bought the Logic of Life previously. I finished reading it in an intercity transit train. Here’s what I think of it:Logic of Life Cover

  • It’s a good read.
  • Harford is proposing a Gladwellian ‘blink’ argument for Rationality.
  • He argues that we are all rational, without consciously being rational.
  • You best read some basic economic books, because Tim writes and assumes everyone knows what Asymmetric Information, or Moral Hazard is.
  • The Logic of Life could also be titled Rationality, From Their Point of View.
  • The feel of the whole book is like reading Rationality 101 (to non-economics students)
  • This Rationality is not the common Homo Economicus argument of human rationality. It’s… the hidden rationality of things, I’d say.
  • Has PLENTY of quotable quotes
  • I recommend it to anyone interested in human rationality.
  • And whoever designed the book cover (not this one on the left) needs to be fired.

On CJ7
In the same post, I also mentioned I watched CJ7. Here’s what I think of it:CJ7 Poster Small

  • E.T-like, for the Hong Kong audience
  • UnE.T-like for the world audience
  • Not a typical Stephen Chow movie - very few instances of mou lei tau (nonsensical) scenes.
  • Story is bland.
  • But Story is original.
  • It’s a father-son story. Little girl is a good actress.
  • CGI usage is omnipresent, but very very very subtle.
  • Stephen Chow hasn’t quite learnt to capture the audience’s emotions (like Steven Spielberg. That man ALWAYS captures the audience)
  • I see this as a maturing act of Stephen Chow’s directorial efforts.
  • He dares to move away from what he’s familiar with.
  • 6/10 - watch it for his effort.
  • Read Swifty’s review of CJ7 for more information.

On the Malaysian Parliament dissolving and General Elections
I think most people know my stance in election, but here’s to recap:

  • I am not going to excercise my right to vote.
  • Sentiments on Web2.0 (i.e. the collaborative web) does not reflect in real life in Malaysia.
  • Both the government and opposition are equally bad. It’s like being between a rock and a hard place.
  • There is no lesser evil.
  • The government is corrupt, and the opposition… is idiotically religious (PAS), and impotent (DAP)
  • Yes, I said, IMPOTENT. As in flaccid dick(head)s who oppose for the sole sake of opposing.
  • And yes, I can see rationality from their point of view. It’s equally silly.
  • I don’t see the DAP doing any good other than oppose more in the future. Ergo, pointless.
  • And personally, to me, One Man One Vote isn’t efficient.
  • You may see a more efficient system coming along quite soon. I promise :P

On General Malaysian Politics
Here’s a recap of politics that I picked up on my trip back:

  • Race-based politics is very very very veryn vile.
  • Race-based politics MUST be banned.
  • Immediately.
  • Any attempts to get rid of race-based politics in Malaysia is ironically labelled by the horrendously corrupt govt. as a racist action.
  • Such idiocy.

On Disney Channel
Right, I don’t get Disney Channel here in Australia, so here’s what I miss from Disney Channel (includes old series that are no more showing):

  • Hannah Montana
  • Suite Life of Zach and Cody
  • Corey in the House
  • Any DCOM (except High School Musical 2 and any Cheetah Girls movie, which was LAME!)
  • Lizzy Maguire
  • That’s So Raven Seasons 1 and 2 (3 and 4 were poor compared to 1 and 2)
  • Phil of the Future

Right. I’m now off to watch Teen Titans Trouble in Tokyo. LOL! Oh yea, I’m planning to shave my head. What do you think?

    Yes…and I’ve been accused of being a fervent left-winger by a relative. Highly disturbing since I’m 19.

And i don’t watch TV much either. Except for House, Simpson and *drum roll* the occasional Mythbusters. And by watch, i mean download. Except for Mythbusters. :S

Hahaha, the only channels I watch on Astro is literally the two Discovery channels (Discovery and Discovery Science). And I couldn’t care less about the shows on them to follow them. Except Mythbusters - where SEA Discovery is a season behind. And everything they air for the first time in Malaysia I’ve already watched. Twice.

And the only US shows I follow that are still running because they were relatively unaffected by the now-over writer’s strike: House and Boston Legal. The other two being How I Met Your Mother and Heroes - which should hopefully resume at some point.

As for elections - I’m not registered yet. zzz. I need to be in Melbourne on March 8th anyway - and I have zero faith in voting other than in person in M’sia. Well, at least our politicians see the pointlessness in having overly long campaign trails over what is essentially an election for show.

Well to me, I will exercise the right to vote, at least as a Malaysian, so, ya. What does really interest me is what move will these 3 races gonna make.

What’s so disturbing? Everyone have their political leanings

    LOL. Election for Show

    Coffeeholic:
What for? (I’m saying this at the risk of Elanor calling me someone who loves the status quo)

Isn’t it for show? We already know who’s gonna win anyway. All there is to watch is who is fighting for a seat they can win, instead of watching them trying to win some new seats for once (goes for both parties).
