Heroic Dreams Much?

Posted in: Deep Thought

There is supposed to be a post called More Chinese than Chinese posted today on my blog to commemorate the last day of Chinese New Year. Unfortunately, despite my not procastinating, I still find that article extremely lacking. And also there was another article that I had in the pipeline about Ang Pau and the Gift Economy. Also, that, I found lacking in substance, and as such, I’m not going to publish it till I polish it.

Also, I suspect that I was facing a writer’s block. I found my article to be extremely rambly. Ugh. And so, to stimulate more writing juice, I’m going to describe a dream I had last night.

I went to bed, and almost straightaway went into a dream. I got plunged into a scene two nights ago - dinner at Nando’s. I tried to test if the dream was lucid, by trying to pick up the knife, or going to buy some Coke. Unfortunately, it wasn’t a lucid dream. Anyways, Michelle called me a walking encyclopedia, which I don’t really like being called. And then the scene jumped to my home.

I was sitting in front of the laptop, my desk, cluttered as usual. But there was this very strange black wire that was connected to my USB port. I picked it up, and plugged the other end to my head. Then I went on practicing some basic calculus (which I would never do unless absolutely necessary, in real life). Then the scene suddenly changed. I wasn’t in my room anymore.

I was in the living room, watching Numb3rs. But I know that I was watching it blankly, because I had already seen that episode last night in real life. I was watching it blankly, and consciously aware that my brain was processing wikipedia in my head (which presumably I had downloaded into my head earlier in the dream). I remember being consciously aware that my brain processed information in a stack, which allowed me to watch TV and process information from a site I downloaded into my brain quite efficiently.

Then I went to bed. When I woke up, I went to the kitchen… and there she was. PS, the girl I love the most (though not necessarily the other way round. Anymore.) Cooking breakfast for me. So, I sat down to eat breakfast, and as usual, someone knocked on the door (I have come to expect someone interrupting my breakfast already, if the last 9 days could be used as a prior). I opened it, and it was Michio Kaku. He handed me a hard drive (A WD Passport), and left. I sat down to continue my breakfast, and plugged the hard drive into my head, with the same USB cable. So there I was, blankly eating breakfast, while downloading information to my head.

PS made a noise, I looked up at her, and then, her image stuttered, and transformed into Sylar. Sylar informed me that he had taken over PS’s image after he killed her, and now he wants my brain. He then proceeded to scalp me… and took my brains out, and ate it. But oddly enough, I was still alive. Sylar got mad because he couldn’t do the things I could do (heh, afterall, he got injected by the Company). I closed my eyes, and concentrated. Just like Hiro.

I was back at Nando’s. And Michelle was saying I am a walking encyclopedia. As she said that, I showed her my head. I opened the scalped part (which is attached with a metal hinge). It was empty and brainless. Hah! After that, things started to get jumpy. As in, like in the movie Jumper.

Apparently, Michio Kaku’s hard drive contained information on quantum disentenglements and bioteleportation (strange considering the fact that Kaku is actually a cosmologist). The scenes kept jumping at an incredible pace: my wedding (the real PS isn’t dead), a park where my dad is playing with my daughter, several funerals, the death of the universe, and its rebirth. Then, enlightenment… which was the realization that it’s all a dream. I began having lucid controls of my dream… I played around with my little dream-universe, gave Prof. Kaku the tape of the beginning of the universe (if you’re wondering why he still exists after the universe rebooted, read the Boltzmann Brain argument) and then disappeared into the light.

Then I woke up. Apparently I forgot to turn off the ligths when I fell asleep. And me disappearing into the light was me staring at was the lights directly above me.

And this concludes my dream. And because Xingyi mentioned that I’m not witty enough, here’s a joke for you since I mentioned Jumper:

What do you get when you cross a kiwi and an aussie?

No idea? How bout - What do you get when you cross a sheep and a kangaroo?

The answer - A wooly jumper.

See?! I AM witty! I’m NOT some bookish guy who takes things too seriously. Okay.. it’s 5.30.. time to go back to bed.

Ah.. I’ve got some yoghurt in my fridge, but I need to finish the kiwi fruit as well. 3 more to go! you can do it!

    Xingyi:
Wooly is also correct (it describes the jumper). And, no, I’ve never been good at math… I just love math.
