Rock Paper Scissors Lizard Spock

I should be asleep. I have a job interview tomorrow. But watching the Big Bang Theory stirred the inner geek, and Bloggck’s dastardly tactics ended in utter failure.

Last night’s Big Bang Theory featured a game called Rock Paper Scissors Lizard Spock, invented by Sam Kass - with hilarious results. Here’s a quick explanation of RPSSL by Sam himself:

But what’s interesting is that this is actually the first time I’ve seen such a balanced (i.e. zero sum game) addition to RPS. I’ve seen plenty of people playing funny versions of RPS (includes fire, water and all sorts of elementals). So as a matter of curiosity, and for those of you who really want to know, below is the Nash equilibrium results. There are no pure strategy Nash Equilibria.

And of course, when talking about RPS, how is it possible not to talk about non-transitive dice? But maybe another day. Gotta sleep. Gr. ja oyasuminasai :D
