Malaysia Trip #1, 2009 Highlights

So, I went back to Malaysia for nary a month (props to my dad for bailing me out from a financial crisis1). Surprisingly, my holidays wasn’t as I expected. I expected lots of sleep and personal time, and it ends up, I sleep as much as I do in Australia (or as little), and I get whisked from place to place – nope, no personal time at all.

And so, instead of boringly recounting what I did in Malaysia (you know, in hopes of sounding like a bimbotic female blogger who’d only take pictures of herself only from an elevated angle), I shall only post the highlights of my Malaysia trip + my holidays in general (in a mostly chronological order):

  • Chinese New Year
This equals good food, and free money. Which reminds me, I need to do an update on the Ang Pau Economics two years on – nothing has changed. Everything went as predicted.
  • Surprising mom
She was sitting at home and I just appeared at the door (my dad and I planned this). It was awesome. She was really happy and promptly shown me off to her friends.
  • Surprising Silkrose
I just showed up at her apartment door. I didn’t tell her that I was going back to surprise her, and she fretted and cried over a few days (think about it, losing communication with your loved one for a few days). Call me a sadistic jerk, but the look of sheer happiness on the day of surprise is satisfying. I planned this with her best friends :D .
  • Pressyo meetings
Pressyo, thankfully, is expanding. We’ve added a few more key people into the company. Now all there’s left to do is to actually actively market the site. I’ve had 3 Pressyo meetings + 4 individual meetings with each of the team members. We’re awesome. All of us.
  • Arguing with dad
We argue quite frequently when we discuss the issues we’re passionate about – democracy, scientific method, China, media (Western Media, Al-Jazeera, and CCTV all cannot be trusted, so just trust Pressyo), the economy, camera specifications, etc. I mean, we do it over MSN, but its different when you hear my dad’s raised voice in passion of the subject.
  • Pulau Jerejak with Silkrose
I tried to surprise her for a second time, but failed, as I blabbed a bit too early. But all was good, and it lead to Pulau Jerejak where we made sweet sweet love2 talked and watched Big Bang Theory together the whole night through, under the stars so bright (hey, where did the power source come from?). The whole experience was a bit rushed and unplanned for, but I’d do it over and over again.
  • Surprising my sister
My sister came back from India, and little did she know, her brother was waiting for her at the airport. Again, my parents and I planned it together. It’s so good to have a buddy to talk to and relate to. Also, there was a great amount of transfer of knowledge from her to me this time. Great to learn so much about med-school.
  • Nearly-Plastic Surgery
I went to see a plastic surgeon (of course for a nose job and a nip/tuck, as well as some botox shots.. ) But as it turns out, I happen to be the keloid prone kind of person, so no surgery was done, thank goodness.
  • New cube!
    New Cube
I’ve got myself a new rubik’s cube. It’s far better and smoother than my old “World’s Smoothest Cube”. Now I can solve a cube under 1 min. And yes, I realize that the Keyhole method will speed me up even more. Don’t nag about it. I’m learning, I’m learning (but still mostly using my own algorithms)
  • The Scare
Ok, this is private, but I did have a scare of my life. And it wasn’t the plastic surgeon. At one point in my trip back, I thought I had seriously fucked up my life and was prepared to go mad and constantly had contigency plans running in my head. Turns out it was just a scare. To the other person (or persons) who’s in on the scare, let’s not do anything as crazy ever again? Something safer would be better. And copious amounts of prevention would be better than having to cure it.
  • 2.5 Terabytes
Not 5 years from 2008. 1 year from 2008, I was asking – how the hell did I live with 1 Terabyte? Then again, one of my 250GB HDD died (by virtue of a power surge3 wtf). And I got myself a new 1 Terabyte MyBook. Let’s see how long will I go before I run out. The day before I bought the new drive, I had 400MB left. So, in essence, I broke my previous record.
  • Thailand
Yes, I know this post was supposed to be about my Malaysian trip, but hey, I did go to Thailand, and it was an awesome experience. Expect a blog post to follow.
  • Facial
Aha, this is stepping into bimbo-girl-blogs-about-emo-life territory. But hey, I did have a facial done, and it was great. I have a clean, smooth, blemish-free face now ((not really, I lie. There are some red spots by old acne still visible. Damn you, [insert random medstudentbabble] capilaries!
  1. as for why this happened, I changed my name to General Motors for a short period of time []
  2. come now, be logical – me? []
  3. the hard drive itself is fine, it’s the external power unit that got burnt out []

I dumped about 600-700GB of data moving back from Australia. :P

And oh yeah, be bloody careful with that particular cube. It kept ‘exploding’ on me – and finding the pieces is a b*%#@. And the stickers are sooooo lame.
